Speaker: Janet Barresi, Republican nominee
for State Superintendent of Public Instruction
Topic: What I will do if elected
Dr. Janet Barresi is a lifelong Republican who is committed to improving our educational system. As a parent confronted with a public middle school option unsuitable for her twin sons, Janet took action and started what turned out to be Oklahoma’s Charter School movement. She has founded two exceptional charter schools, including Harding College Preparatory High School which has been nationally recognized for its accomplishments byNewsweek, and she worked with then Governor Frank Keating to pass landmark legislation to provide greater school choice in Oklahoma. Dr. Barresi, who ran a dental practice for 24 years after spending time as a Speech Pathologist in public schools, has continued to be an advocate for school reform and school choice, even though her twins are now 23. Having been appointed to the Achieving Classroom Excellence Task Force by former Speaker of the House Todd Hiett, Janet has been a proponent of academic rigor, transparency and local control of schools. http://www.JanetBarresi.com
